Rebekah Shufelt's Bio
Rebekah Shufelt works primarily in watercolor and oil. Her still-life, portraiture,
landscape, and architectural paintings cover a wide range of subjects, from Winston Churchill to historic Hudson River mansions
to a suburban home infamous for a mid-western murder. Her portraits of homes, apartments, and hotels give us a chance to experience
a distinct, and often surprisingly emotional, perspective on the everyday geometry of the shapes we live in, but rarely stop
to contemplate. Country or suburban, modern or historic, these portraits each have a story to tell.
Personal Statement
From a very early age I was exposed to the arts and encouraged to create.
I double majored in business and art at Calvin College with concentrations in marketing and painting respectively.
For many years I have concentrated on architectural style paintings, although lately I have been painting landscapes
to stills and working in charcoal. I find that I am attracted to color and boldness of the subject. I currently sell limited edition prints of my artwork along with working on commission.
On the business side, I currently
work in global advertising at Young & Rubicam in New York. My experience also includes leading the development,
strategy and launch of one of the first e-commerce sites for Verizon. In 2005, I was selected by the Chief Creative
Office for my first solo exhibition in the "Hidden Talent Series" at Young & Rubicam.
